Everyone Deserves to Feel the Wind
For many of us, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of being out on the open road.
Share the Wind was created to make sure that experience isn’t limited by age, mobility, disability, or circumstance.
Through specially equipped motorcycle sidecars and a dedicated group of volunteer riders, Share the Wind provides motorcycle experiences primarily for seniors living in long-term care and individuals facing physical, intellectual, or mental health challenges.
For some participants, it’s an opportunity to experience something completely new. For others, it’s a chance to reconnect with memories of motorcycles, adventure, and the freedom of the open road.
Every ride is different—but the smiles are pretty universal.
More Than a Motorcycle Ride
A Share the Wind experience is about much more than getting into a sidecar.
It’s about inclusion.
It’s about getting outside, experiencing the community, meeting new people, and doing something that might otherwise seem impossible.
For residents of long-term care facilities in particular, a ride can provide a welcome change from their regular routine and an opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and fresh air of Nova Scotia from an entirely different perspective.
Sometimes it’s a short ride.
Sometimes it’s a longer adventure.
But every passenger gets the opportunity to experience something many motorcycle riders already understand:
the simple joy of feeling the wind.
Taking Share the Wind Across Nova Scotia
Share the Wind has continued to grow well beyond the Wharf Rat Rally itself.
Throughout the riding season, volunteer riders visit communities and care facilities, creating opportunities for participants to get out on the road safely in one of the program’s sidecar motorcycles.
The program continues to expand into new parts of Nova Scotia, allowing more residents, families, care providers, and communities to experience Share the Wind.
Hundreds of rides are now provided each season, and the goal is simple:
keep riding, keep reaching new communities, and give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate.
Share the Wind at the Wharf Rat Rally
Share the Wind remains a special part of the Wharf Rat Rally.
During Rally weekend, the program provides another reminder that motorcycle culture is about much more than machines.
It’s about community.
It’s about friendship.
And it’s about sharing the experience with others.

Share the Wind wouldn’t be possible without the people behind it.
Volunteer riders give their time throughout the season to transport the motorcycles, coordinate with participating facilities, maintain the equipment, and—most importantly—provide safe and memorable rides.
Their dedication has allowed the program to continue expanding into new communities and reach hundreds of participants every year.
It’s a tremendous example of what can happen when a passion for motorcycles is combined with a desire to give something back.

Motorcycle maintenance, fuel, insurance, equipment, transportation, and the continued expansion of the program all require support.
